Remote-access tech-support scam (AnyDesk/TeamViewer)
A fake “support” agent asks you to install a remote-control app so they can “fix” something — then they control your screen and your bank.
Informational only — not legal or financial advice.
How it works
- You're contacted about a “virus,” refund, or account problem.
- They ask you to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or similar and read them the code.
- Once connected they see your screen and can move your money while you watch.
Red flags
- Anyone asking you to install remote-control software to “help.”
- They want the connection code or to watch you log in to your bank.
- Unexpected contact about a problem you didn't report.
What to do
- Refuse and end the contact; uninstall the app if you installed it.
- If worried about your device, ask a person you trust to look.
- Contact the company yourself through official channels.
What NOT to do
- Do not install remote-access apps because a caller asked you to.
- Do not log in to your bank or share codes while someone watches your screen.
